Gründerzeit with future - demonstration project 2: ROOFJET Wißgrillgasse - sustainable solution for improving the thermal-energetic performance of a typical historical building in Vienna
The main aim of the project ROOFJET Wißgrillgasse is a building refurbishment by a factor of 8 which demonstrates that even historical buildings can be refurbished to lowest energy standard. This demonstration project shows a holistic and sustainable refurbishment concept for a special type of buildings with innovative technical and organizational solutions.
The aim of the project is a functional test to determine whether an up-to-date data set of energy-oriented data can be collected for neighbourhood planning through gamification, cost-efficiently, quickly and reliably. This will be determined using the example of the potential determination of industrial and commercial waste heat sources in Vienna and Graz.
The main aim of this project is the development of an integrated framework for the digital platform "Housing 4.0"; thus supporting integrated planning and project delivery through coupling various digital tools and databases. Thereby, the potentials of BIM for modular, off-site housing assembly in order to improve planning and construction processes, reduce cost and construction time and allow for mass customization will be explored. The novel approach in this project is user-involvement; which has been neglected in recent national and international projects on off-site, modular construction, supported by digital technologies.
Itz Smart – Carbon neutral city district development Itzling – Implementing innovation and technology via co-operative process design
The goal of the project “Itz Smart” is to tie in with existing activities and to consistently develop Itzling as a residential location further. In the test and demonstration area, sustainable residential quarters with trendsetting solutions for mobility are developed in the zone of the transport axis (railway and Schillerstraße) and along the local supply axis (Itzlinger Hauptstraße). The consideration of housing and mobility with regard to the aspect of “city of short ways“ also entails a discussion of determined mixed utilisation and the development of such residential quarters.
The design aims not only at creating comfortable living spaces and practical work environments, but at connecting these realms, thus providing a holistically attractive “living space”. A pilot project will be built on an appropriate site in the very core of Moosburg, neighbouring both the village square and the educational campus.

PH-Academy - "Passive house of the future" Academy platform for knowledge transfer between building developers
Builders and developers of residential buildings in low energy and passive house standard were invited to an academically moderated direct exchange of experiences, to turn them into competent users of new technologies.
Maintenance costs for central air ventilation systems are approximately 0,42 Euro/m².a excluding VAT, for decentralized systems 1,16 Euro/m².a excluding VAT. 50% savings in operating costs of apartment passive houses opposed to apartment low-energy buildings [SCH11] can be achieved with maintenance costs of around 0,42 Euro/m².a.

Smart Pölten 2.0 Holistic view on a Vertical Farm in preparation for a demonstration project for the city of St. Pölten
The city of St. Pölten forsees great potential in Vertical Farming with regard to the objectives related to the concept of the Smart City program - linking local food production, quality of life by reducing resource consumption. This has to be evaluated by combining Vertical Farms with existing living buildings. Eco-social and socio-economic considerations play an important role in this process.
This project aims for feasible low-cost solutions, which allow residents of multi-party houses, with special focus on social housing to profit and participate in the energy transition process and associated trends (e.g. community generation units, exploitation of flexibility). The results of the project are low-cost concepts and business models of community generation units and utilization concepts, tested for their feasibility in a social housing complex. These concepts are based on special requirements of different lifestyles in low-income households and take the framework of social housing such as tenant fluctuation into account.
