IEA ISGAN Communication Working Group (Working period 2025 - 2027)

This project examines the topic of “Network planning under uncertain framework conditions for intelligent distribution grids”. By means of international exchange and the collection of best practices and implemented examples, a Casebook and policy recommendations will be created.

Short Description

The project deals with Austria's active participation in the communication working group of the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN). The focus is on Tasks 2 and 3, which deal with the collection of best practices (casebook) and the structured exchange of knowledge.

At the center is the lighthouse project "Network planning under uncertain framework conditions in the smart distribution grid", with a special focus on stakeholder interactions which develops international case studies, policy recommendations and knowledge transfer formats. Austria, represented by the AIT, is taking on a leading role:

  • Task 2: Management and coordination of an international casebook
  • Task 3: Management of a subtask for analysis and support as part of a Knowledge Sharing Project (KSP)

The aim is to document specific international application examples, formulate policy recommendations and promote exchange between research, industry and politics.

Methodologically, the project combines qualitative and participatory approaches. It includes the development of a structured questionnaire for the creation of the casebook, which will be filled in through exchanges in national and international workshops and expert interviews to collect case studies. The Knowledge Sharing Project (KSP) is designed as a seven-part series of workshops. It involves collecting data, pooling knowledge from stakeholders and developing policy recommendations through discussions and in-depth analyses.
