Wood Plastic Composite - Direct extrusion

Development of a wood composite direct dosing system

Short Description

Status

completed

Summary

In wood plastic composite extrusion, wood is typically palletised, compounded or agglomerated.

In this project a new feeding dosing equipment is being developed to allow direct use of wood fibers, chips or powder, even combined with polymer pellets.

Wood content may range from 50 to 90%, up to 6 components may be added, including additives, pigments, starch or others.

This development can improve the productivity or the newly establishing wood extrusion industry and can give vital impulses to its expected break through over the next years.

The technical challenges are to overcome flow problems, the low bulk density of the wood as well as separation problems of the composite mixture.
