The accompanying process of the FIT4UrbanMission

To face the diverse challenges of climate change together, the available and functional solutions must be made accessible to everyone. Therefore, Austria relies on a joint approach.

With the "FIT4UrbanMission" initiative, two departments in the "Innovation and Technology" section of the Ministry of Climate Protection - "Energy and Environmental Technologies" (Department III/I3) and "Mobility and Transport Technologies" (Department III/I4) - have started a national support scheme for Austrian cities to work towards becoming climate neutral and participating in the EU-Cities Mission. A key aspect of this support scheme was the accompanying process. This process aimed to strategically and thematically support the participating cities along their way. In addition to the BMK, an extended group of public actors, including the FFG, the KLIEN, AustriaTech and the Salzburg Institute for Regional Planning with Smart Cities Network Austria, joined the process to provide guidance and expert consulting services.

SIR and AustriaTech operationally implemented the accompanying process on behalf of the BMK. The support includes needs-based advice and networking on technical and content-related questions and the dissemination of the cities' activities to achieve higher public visibility and awareness for the tasks to come.
