Summary

The current standard of multi-story subsidized housing in Austria has not nearly reached the
conceptual or technical limits of ecological, energy-efficient construction.
The aim of the project is to create a base for future social residential housing projects, for further projects and the development of standards in the field of passive and low energy houses, by means of three different building types. So, a further step is supposed to be made in the direction of low-cost, low-energy, multi-story domestic buildings with everyday life aptitude and high user acceptance.
In cooperation with the client the complex reciprocal action between efficiency, resource care and user acceptance in the passive and low energy house field is supposed to be examined and optimized at a special project of the multi-story domestic architecture in the solarCity Linz-Pichling

Contents

The described project is a residential building site with seven different big houses with 93 living-units realised in cooperation with the apartment society "EBS Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH Linz". The Project is part of the solarCity Linz-Pichling and consists of 5 low energy houses, one passive house and one "almost passive house". Special attention was payed to the combination of different innovative components regarding construction and building service technologies.

Aims

The analysis of the 3 building types (low energy house, passive house and "almost passive house") should have given more information about the introduction and suitability of new
innovative technologies in the residential building practice and about the interaction of man -
technology - costs especially in the area of social housing projects. An essential part of the project has been the information and motivation of the future inhabitants.
They should have been encouraged by a professional to live actively in harmony with the project with the aim to increase their living satisfaction, and reduce the consumption of energy. The 7 houses and especially the passive house should make a contribution to a better acceptance of low energy houses and passive houses by the inhabitants and especially by the facility companies.

Methods

The research was organized in 10 different milestones which considered synopsis, social approach, simulations by means of computational fluid dynamics, solar heating and HVAC (Heating- Ventilation - Air Condition) technologies, construction technologies, and the investigation of costs.

Data

The research was based on the construction drawings of Treberspurg & Partner Architekten and the offers received in 2001. Analysis and Calculations are based on special research as a part of this work as well as CFD - Simulation and the coaching of the inhabitants.
