Summary

The Diagonal-Dowel Building Module consists of several solid-wood elements joined securely with diagonally-inserted hard-wood dowels.

The Diagonal Dowels stabilize the individual elements and minimize the natural tendency of wood to swell and shrink without using toxic glues or excessive fasteners.

The modules are suitable for construction of interior or exterior walls, ceilings, and second-story floors. We produce a variety of modules in multiple dimensions, surface profiles, insulation options, and finishes.

Module Construction Details

  • Red Austrian Fir or White Austrian Fir (both sustainably harvested)
  • Dimensions: 60cm (24") wide; 2.5 - 12m (8' - 39') long; 8 - 30cm (3 - 12") thick
  • Clear or natural wood quality; planed or rough-sawn

Surface profiles

Open joint:

2mm(1/16") or 4mm(3/16") joint openings, which hide small gaps between individual elements caused by swelling and shrinking

Smooth surface:

Flush-planed surface; small gaps between elements caused by swelling and shrinking may be visible
