Pioneer region for Smart Grids in Vorarlberg
The object of Vorarlberg is to meet its energy demand complete by renewable energies and to become self-sufficient until the year 2050. To reach this object, the process “Energiezukunft Vorarlberg” has been initiated, which should develop a sustainable energy supplying system.
This process intends comprehensive measures to reduce the energy demand, to increase the energy efficiency and to raise the use of renewable energies. The raised use of renewable energies depends on following political goals:
- Increase the number of photovoltaic plant fivefold until the year 2020 (today there are 1500 plants in Vorarlberg)
- Doubling the number of biogas plants (today 35 plants in Vorarlberg)
- Extension of water power
- Substitution of fuels and heating energy by renewable technologies (for example heat pipe, electrical vehicles …)
