Summary

Motivation

While the knowhow for basic construction (heat insulation, no thermal bridge, airproof etc.) by the planning of passive houses is established, there are very differing statements and opinions for house-technical arrangements in particular in large-volume residential building. The options are moving between heating about the additional air/independent heating systems, central/decentral ventilation systems, air preheating, application of regenerative energy sources and much more.

4 nearly identical multi-storage houses with each 10 living units will be realized to demonstrate and prove 4 different systems of passive-house equipment bases on studies of Prof. Streicher by means of thermical simulation. Different types of alternative energy sources will be innovative related to these systems under nearly ideal circumstances.

Continuing a study of Dr. Lipp the physiological effects of these different house technology systems should be also checked.

The conversion and lasting assurance of qualitative aims in a multistage valuation, leant on the TQ-tools of Arge TQ and the enlarging of the tool also, should be demonstrated in the third part of this study.

So one demonstrativ building will help to verify at least three former studies of the HdZ program.

The financial frame was given by the subsidies of the BMvit and the city Vienna. A big part of residential buildings in Vienna are built in the same financial frame and so the statements and results considering these economic conditions are a very good base for other residential buildings.

Conclusions (references)

Efficiency of the house technology system:

By specific user's behaviour the indoor comfort of passive-houses can be influenced clearly. The evaluated data shows in some cases, that with the right measures the air temperature and humidity of rooms can be hold within the comfort range with few energy input.

Comfort by different rest warmth bringing into play:

All systems, excepting panel heating, works in line with comfort standard ISO EN 7730:2005 very well. They fall in the best summative comfort category A, panel heating would fall in category B. Problems of panel heating could be solved easily (keep passive-house-door closed and adjust the ventilation system)

Lasting quality by accompanying and multistage quality assessment:

Through involved favored qualities and fixed quality targets the planning could be considerable easier. Starting with the right site, the adequate concept, the choice of definitive building materials and equipment bases it is possible to upgrade the planning process and to keep the projected costs.

Advantages of this multi step evaluation for:

  • the planner: the builder's aims/goals can be achieved and converted with increased personal responsibility of the planner;
  • the builder/investor: transparency of planner's qualities, transparency of implementation qualities; comparison of the assessments in different stages of realization progress;
  • the user: Transparency of the implementation qualities; possibility of comparison of the assessments in the planning phase and implementation phase
