Summary
The projects originated within the sub-program "Building Of Tomorrow" represent an important basis for the transformation of the building industry towards sustainable building. The present projects goal was to spark interest and to sensitise the participants of the education sector (especially students) for sustainable building with renewable raw materials by demonstrating them functional and economical solutions ("Building Of Tomorrow" demonstration projects). Furthermore general and technical information was made available by the transfer measures planned in the project.
The preparation and the realisation of a lecture for students at the Technical University of Vienna for all building studies was the main aspect in this project. The focus laid on the dissemination of knowledge about building materials of renewable raw materials. Particularly the combination of theory and practice played an important role. Additional to the theoretic basics the students learned how to work with materials like straw, wood, hemp, flax, mud and as well paint and glaze on the basis of plant oil.
Till now - both the transfer activities of the topic building materials of renewable raw materials and the combination of theory and practice in traineeship were not sufficiently present in the transfer matrix of the Technical University of Vienna. Although building materials of renewable raw materials have a high economical and ecological potential the transfer activities for them were missing, therefore this project aimed to reduce this existing transfer deficit.
