NATUBAR - Natural raw materials for specific barrier applications in paper and board (SUSPRISE Joint Call)
NATUBAR is an industrial research project. It consists of researching and developing a totally new approach to starch modification namely selective oxidation as patented by Glycanex as well as the application in modern folding box boards and the photopaper production environment.
Bio-R: Applications for treating Cellulosic bodies with supercritical carbon dioxide
The target of this project is the screening of the opportunities, resulting of the combination of treating Cellulosic bodies with supercritical carbon dioxide. In general, the change of the porous structure depending on the way of fiber drying and the opportunity to incorporate active compounds and the development of analytical methods to track them within Cellulosic bodies.
ZERMEG II - Zero emission retrofitting method for existing galvanising plants
ZERMEG II is the follow up project of ZERMEG, which was commissioned after the first call of the Austrian Factory of the Future program in 2001. The project developed a method to revamp existing galvanising plants in order to operate them with a maximum reduction of the use of chemicals and maximum recycling.
Development of an eco-efficient alternate building material by using biogenic fountain remnants to act as binders
Development of alternative construction material "Mixolith" with wood ashes from power plants (biomass energy) as hydraulic binders. Evidence of product properties for construction of embankment safeguard dams or road construction. Many years of experience with alternative construction material.
Adjustment of the value chain in the mass-shoe-production to customized production by unitized products and processes
Main topic of the project is the incremental change of business logics in mass shoe production by changing product-push to customer-pull concepts. Results need to integrate the entire supply chain, add value to the brand and its products and contribute to the company's sustainability.
Resource-saving and sustainable production of high-quality steel by enhanced on-line control of stirring efficiency in vacuum degassing (SUSPRISE Joint Call)
For vacuum degassing of liquid steel, as it is used for production of high quality steel grades, an improved on-line monitoring and control system will be developed and applied. Thus the reliability of the vacuum degassing process will be improved, and simultaneously the consumption of energy and resources will be reduced.
Circular Economy Funding
In this project, online research and expert interviews were used to collect available funding opportunities for projects and measures within the field of circular economy. The results were transferred to a database and organized for searches according to suitability.
Bio-based substitution of fossil raw materials and products
To support the bio-based substitution of fossil raw materials and products, the fossil material flows in Austria for the reference year 2015 were collected and analysed. Furthermore, a broad bio-based technology research was part of the present study.
Quantitative and qualitative identification of relevant secondary raw material flows in Austria
In the course of the raw material initiative, the European Commission classified a number of elements and basic materials (including rare earth elements, gallium, germanium, platinum group metals and tantalum) as critical raw materials because of their doubtful future access. In order to operate appropriate recycling of these particular critical raw materials, the primary aim of the present project is to identify the waste streams and to investigate their quality and the quantity of critical raw materials. As a basis for presented aim a "Secondary Raw Material Map Austria 2030", which represents the theoretical, the real and in the future reachable potential of this critical secondary raw materials, is developed.
Scenarios for the Biobased Industry in Austria
In order to support the implementation of the Austrian Bioeconomy Strategy, three scenarios for the bio-based industry in Austria were developed. The present study is intended to serve as a solid overview and as a starting point for further detailed studies by other researchers.
Door inner layers based on renewable primary products and residue
Foam bodies are produced by extrusion of renewable primary products and/or residue and then squeezed with adhesives to plates, which can be used for door inner layers.
Stroh-Cert: certification, logistic and quality management for straw bale buildings
Certification of straw bales as insulating material, development of a straw bale logistic concept and a quality management system as strategic measures with the aim of the dissemination of straw bales as insulating material
Kräuterhexen (herb witches) - Creation of value by remedies and wellness-products made of regional raw materials
Regional manufacturers and suppliers of products made of renewable raw materials shall be summarized to develop a common product line with corporate identity and corresponding quality management to sale more and increase the value in the wellness sector.
Recovery of biomolecules from condensates of process gases during thermal refinement of wood for the development of new wood products.
The exhaust vapors of the process of refinement of wood are not longer seen as industrial waste but a starting point for added value from products used in the timber industry, which represents a new approach for sustainable utilisation of wood.
Reprocessing of used goods - A strategy of sustainability and ist impact on the supply chain of a "factory of tomorrow"
Objective is to improve the competitiveness of reprocessing-activities as strategies towards higher resource productivity. The study will analyse the changes of the supply chain necessary to achieve this beyond the Point of Sale with regard to the re-integration of used goods in the supply chain.
Increase in Sales of Vegetable Oils from Austrian Oilseeds by Increase of the Technical Grade with Regard to the Demands of the Varnishing Industry
The cultivation of flax (linseed) in Austria should be enhanced by arrangements to increase the technical grade of linseed oil produced. Austrian agriculture should be enabled to provide raw materials sufficient in batch and technical grade for the Austrian varnishing industry.
