23. November 2021, 9:30 – 15:00 Uhr
Online Livestream
The event “Highlights of Energy Research” this year focused on the topic “Energy storage”. Activities of the IEA Energy Storage TCP, the market analysis of energy storages in Austria as well as various research projects were presented, which covered a wide range of topics from battery development to large-scale heat storage and sector coupling.
NEWTON: City of Tomorrow 4.0 - movie series
In the future, more people than ever will live in cities. But how can we make better use of energy and other resources? In this science documentary, we present innovative technologies and concepts in the field of sustainable building, and meet Austrian experts working at home and abroad. Intelligent planning, innovative building technologies and urban greening are the keys to making our cities more livable for tomorrow.
From courtyards to lightyards
The feasibility of daylight-optimized solutions for retrofitting courtyards by an intelligent alignment of different materials has been examined. With it, daylighting levels in lower floors can realistically be increased tenfold. Additionally, a calculation tool for generating and evaluating optimal courtyard solutions was designed. Besides daylighting parameters also economic criteria were considered.

29. October - 2. November 2017
Jumeirah Hotel at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)
The International Solar Energy Society, ISES, and the International Energy Agency’s Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, IEA SHC, are very pleased to announce that their next international conferences, the ISES Solar World Congress 2017 (SWC 2017) and the Solar Heating and Cooling for Buildings and Industry Conference (SHC 2017) will be held together.
ÖKO-OPT-AKTIV - Optimised control and operating behaviour of thermally activated buildings in future urban districts
Development and simulation of scalable, distributed control strategies for the use of the storage effect of thermally activated components in buildings of future city districts for their energy supply by an energy centre.
LessIsMore - Energy efficient human centric lighting by innovative components and daylight integration
Human Centric Lighting (HCL) is focused on the positive visual and non-visual (biological) effects of light on humans, but is wasting energy by the inefficient use of components and daylight. In LessIsMore an exemplary pilot installation will be developed and evaluated.
Innovation lab act4energy
The Innovation Lab act4energy is set up as an innovation laboratory project. Its focus is to solve the problems of renewable energies integration with a focus on photovoltaic power paired with local consumption, linked to the the high fluctuation of renewable energies.
Piezo-Klett: Development of piezoelectric hook-and-loop application for the energy supply of active sensor technology in the building industry
The present project considered buildings, parts of buildings and their joints (component nodes) as energy generators by using the hook-and-loop fastener in combination with the piezoelectric effect to perform a so-called energy harvesting.
IÖB-ENERGY - Public procurement for intelligent urban energy solutions
Assessment of the potential for pre-commercial procurement in the Smart City energy sector in Austria in the areas of innovative building technologies, urban energy systems and systems for urban planning. The results will serve as the basis for recommendations for future priority setting for public procurers.
Cooling LEC - Energy-flexible buildings by controlling cooling systems via unidirectional communication in local energy communities
As a result of climate change and the rise in temperature, especially due to the increase in active cooling systems, especially at low-voltage level, new challenges are being posed to the electricity system (in particular to the distribution network). Due to the high electrical input of active cooling units and the high density of plants, which are sometimes operated uncoordinated and at unfavorable times, leads to peak consumption in the system. The project Cooling LEC therefore has as its overall objective the development and demonstration of a central control / intelligence of decentralized active cooling systems by further developing the unidirectional communication of ripple control systems to create energy-flexible buildings in the sense of the new approach of "Local Energy Communities" by creating a "special tariff". Ripple control systems have been established for many decades and are available and proven by all energy suppliers. The upscaling potential is very big.
Mission2030 – Climate-neutral Smart City Klagenfurt 2030
As Austria's only city, Klagenfurt is part of the EU Cities Mission 2030. Along with Rome, Barcelona, Laibach and other European cities, the Carinthian state capital has set itself the goal of being climate neutral by 2030. A project that is not utopia, but quite realistic! An essential component and backbone of this mission is the Austrian Pioneer Cities Program.
CO2 free Deutschlandsberg 2040
The city of Deutschlandsberg has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2040 and is developing a climate neutrality roadmap to ensure climate-resilient urban development. This plan is also intended to combine the expected population growth, due to the commissioning of the Koralm railway at the end of 2025, while maintaining a high quality of life.
DieWärmePioniere - Participatory climate transformation roadmap as basis for a demo district in the gas-supplied Kahlenbergerdorf
Development of a transformation roadmap for the decarbonization of a neighborhood and implementation of a subarea. Securing acceptance of the project and raising awareness through an active participation process of the population and the establishment of an energy community for heat supply.
DW² - Thermal improvements on diaphragm walls
New materials and installation methods for diaphragm walls will be investigated in laboratory and field tests in order to improve the thermal properties of the construction elements. Additional numerical and ecological aspects are considered to ensure an energetic enhancement of underground constructions such as underground garages or thermal energy storages.
AR-AQ-Bau - Use of Augmented Reality for acceptance and quality assurance on construction sites
The aim of this research project is the development of a construction site-suitable augmented reality (AR) system included a Remote-Expert-System and a BIM-Closed-Loop data transfer system for improving the quality of construction, building security and energy efficiency as well as increasing the efficiency of construction investigation.
BONSEI! Optimal use of existing buildings – energy efficient implementation of renovation!
The project BONSEI! would like to support an energy efficient and socially acceptable densification of privately owned residential buildings in urban space and to develop a methodological basis for resource efficient urban areas. The results are used for the conception of an innovative service in order to provide a neutral consulting regarding private densification plans.
